When you use LED lights with a standard Maestro dimmer (MA-600), the lights cannot be turned off and are always dimmed. I tried the Maestro dimmer for LED lights (MA-CL150) and it worked for some of my LED bulb, but the chandelier and decorative post bulbs would still not turn all the way off. The bulb manufacturer told me to use a dimmer with a Neutral wire connection, such as one designed for a low voltage electronic transformer. LEDs actually are low voltage internally and the bulbs have a small electronic transformer built in.
This is the only dimmer of the 10 I tried that worked perfectly with "Hyperikon® LED Filament Candle 4-Watt", which you can order from Amazon.
The LED lights dim smoothly from fully bright to fully off - even though the instructions for the dimmer do not claim LED compatibility.
When I bought LED bulbs I had no idea I'd need new dimmer switches. When I installed with my traditional dimmer my lights buzzed like crazy. Then I found out I needed "LED compatible" dimmer switches. My local Lowes store had the CL type dimmers right by the LED can lights which say they are compatible with LEDs. Unfortunately, the cheaper, Lutron CL dimmers say they are compatible for LED dimming but did not work for me in a dimming situation. My GE LEDs buzzed like crazy. I was driving me mad. Lutron leads you to believe its about finding specific bulbs that work with the CL dimmers. However, after hours of reading I finally found a youtube video of a guy who called Lutron about compatibility. He says Lutron admitted that their standard of "working" for the CL dimmers means you can only hear the buzzing if within 2 feet from the light. I could hear my buzzing half way across the room and I'm not really keen on the idea of an "acceptable" amount of buzzing when my incandescent lamps were silent and dimmed perfectly. So, the good news is that these ELV dimmers completely eliminated my buzzing.
Anyway, after spending hours figuring out that these ELV dimmers are basically the only way to make LEDs work correctly in my can lights, it took me hours longer to figure out how to install them.
First, what the instructions don't tell you is that, IF you have a neutral wire, it may be in your wall box but NOT connected to your current switches. In my wall box the neutral wire was tucked way back up in there with a wire nut connecting the several neutral wires. You have to undo the wire nut, use the supplied extension to connect to your neutral wire, then connect the neutral wire to the silver screw. Also, I had two switches controlling the same lights and only one of my wall boxes had a neutral wire. So you need to locate a box with a neutral wire for the main dimmer.
Second, in 3-way switch applications, you MUST also buy Lutron's companion dimmer (its far cheaper). The companion does not require the neutral wire.
Third, keep an eye on your total watts. The dimmer I installed controls 6 can lights (something like 400 watts worth of incandescent lights). While I installed this specifically for LEDs, I wanted to avoid a situation where the dimmer could not handle the load for incandescent lights. This was the cheapest dimmer I could find that could handle the load for 6 can lights and it cost over $100. After buying the main dimmer, the companion dimmer, and the plates, I'm a good $150 into dimmer (not counting the bulbs themselves). It's ridiculous really. Unfortunately, many places are not stocking incandescent lights any longer. Had I known it was going to be this big of an issue I probably would have sought out more incandescent lights rather than switching over.
So, in sum, if you're like me, you naively bought LED replacement lights thinking you were going to put them in your existing dimmer and have no problems. WRONG! You may find horrible buzzing or flickering in your lights. The good news is that after getting these installed correctly they stop the buzzing and the dimming works great. The bad news is that most local hardware stores do not sell these ELV dimmers and it's not as simple as just removing your old dimmer and putting the wires in the same locations. These are a totally different beast than normal dimmers and neither Lutron, Lowes, Home Depot seems to want to tell you this. They need to have huge disclaimers on their websites and in their stores.
We like the Xmas tree lights that indicate the setting. Good switch.
I needed a ELV dimmer for a new fixture I bought, so I got this ELV model of the Maestro line. The fixture had dimming issues. I ended up going through 5 models of fixtures, all with a mixture of different issues. One common issue was that the light would have a pulsing/flicker at <50% dimming levels. Another issue was that as the light would fade on, it would flash brightly, than return to the dimming ramp-up. After so many failed attempts, I tried a Diva model, and that seems to have solved the flicker/pulsing problem. Lutron claims that these operate the same, but that's obviously not true. I did try another Maestro ELV dimmer I have, and it had the same problems.
LED lighting and dimming is so incredibly annoying. The biggest annoyance is that this problem has been solved! I have numerous <= $2 bulbs that dim fine with a $30 dimmer. Yet a combination of a $200 fixture and $80 dimmer doesn't perform as well. It makes little sense how manufacturers continue with this madness. They just have horrendous return levels. I'd be happier with a fixture that came without a bulb, and I could buy/install myself. But instead, most new fixtures come with built in LED lights and drivers which don't perform as well as the cheaper bulbs.
Sadly, I'm beyond the return point of this dimmer. So I'm not sure what I'm going to do. $80 is a lot of money to lose like this.

If you have track head LED's you need a dimmer that is ELV, THAT IS THE ONLY THING THAT WILL STOP YOUR HUMMING. The fact that single switch cost me $170 is absolutely criminal but at the end of the day it's the only switch i could find that did the job.
Modern led light fixtures require special dimmers Electronic low voltage
